Description

With the call of the Allaedam, a sanctioned melee to determine the ascendency to the Ahamaran throne, thirteen-year-old Princess Qadira is forced into a life or death battle  but when she is accused by the one she loves most of terrible atrocities, she must decide if she should become what her fellow djinn perceive her to be or fight for what remains of her soul.

Get it Now! Nine heirs. One fight to the death. There can only be one queen.

With the call of the Allaedam, a sanctioned melee to determine the ascendency to the Ahamaran throne, thirteen-year-old Princess Qadira is forced into a battle for both her life and soul, but when she is accused by the one she loves most of terrible atrocities, she must decide if she should become what people perceive her to be or fight for her who she believes herself to be.

In this suspenseful portal fantasy, thirteen-year-old Qadira is faced with the reality that to be queen, her eight siblings must die. Decreed by the Ahmaran deity, only one heir can live to ascend the throne, and Qadira is forced into a sudden fight to the death with her siblings to see who will rule. The problem? She doesn’t want to kill anyone.

But when she accidentally causes the death of one of her siblings, all sights are turned on her as the most dangerous threat. With all the heirs coming at her full force, she makes an unexpected ally—a disembodied voice that whispers terrible things and promises her survival and eventual queenship if she releases him.

Despite how much she wishes to escape, she’s stuck in the palace with magic and blade-wielding siblings seeking her death. It’s only then, with death whispering in her ear and tragedies manifesting in everything she touches, that she realizes there is only one truth: she either kills her siblings and lives to become a murderous queen, or she lets herself be killed in hopes her soul will have peace.

Let me start by saying I love fantasy (my favorite being anything Tolkien). I am fascinated by worlds that don’t exist but still, at times, feel as real as the world we live in every day.

Glister has been fantastic! I’m not quite to the end, but considering the peek we keep getting into Qadira’s later life, well… let’s just say I’m spellbound to know how this will end! The characters pull me in and invite me to get to know them (for better or worse). Glister has this effect on me – you know the one I mean – where you keep reading more than you mean. I sit down to read for a little bit and before I know it, I’m binge-reading and I don’t know how much time has passed! Qadira is a fascinating character, and I feel for her. I won’t offer any spoilers, but Glister is brilliant, compelling, emotional, and sometimes painful. Not to mention – the front cover is gorgeous!

Main Character

Queen Qadira - This story toggles between present-day Qadira and her childhood self at thirteen years old when the Allaedam was called.

The Location

Qaf, or a sunless land whose skies crawl with eight moons, is where the other part of the story takes place. Ahmar is the richest of the nine kingdoms of Qaf and is ruled by the fierce and bedazzled Queen Qadira, whom this story is about.

The world is full of magic, flying snakes, gem-covered turtles, binding covenants, and Allah's most mischievous creatures: djinn.
